Help for foster care and adoption agencies
Improving adoption outcomes through pre- and post-adoption groups
building resiliency during foster care
Through decades of clinical work, we have seen many children and teens enter adoptive placements without systematic preparation, and many adoptive families struggle afterwards to remain together
In response to these problems, over the years we created and continue to refine three different but complementary programs”
This program helps children and teens clarify and integrate their personal histories and develop positive expectations towards adoption
This program is designed for adoptive families who are experiencing difficulties
This program helps children and teens cope and build resilience during their time in substitute care
About Us and Our “Why”
We are three foster care, adoption and mental health professionals who have devoted decades of our careers to working with adoptive and kinship families, and children and teens in foster care and adoptive placements. We have practiced in a variety of public and private settings.
Like other professionals in our field, we know that too many children and teens are residing in foster care and/or are entering adoptive placements without any focused work to relieve their deep grief and unresolved pain over past traumas and losses, and separation from their birth families. Too many foster, adoptive and kinship families struggle with managing intense negativity, problematic behaviors, and academic difficulties. Counseling resources are simply too limited to meet these needs.
We created these three flexible, customizable programs over the years as a way for agency staff to address these problems in a practical, effective, low-cost manner. Many other foster care and adoption professionals have contributed – and continue to contribute – to the ongoing evolution and improvement of these programs.
